The matrix may be the hold that this so called free America (first world country) has on its population. It may or may not begin with the government, its not limited to the government. In the society of the matrix(movie) it is their ambition that brought them to create this artificial intelligence that led to their downfall, maybe we aren't far from it. In this capitalistic society we are driven by greed and quick gratification and this may be our fall into the Matrix if we are not already in it.
The matrix isn't necessarily about technology's hold on our modern society but technology may be a way of facilitating this matrix. I believe the matrix is more about a state of mind where a person is willingly ignorant or desires to be ignorant to their reality. I think of Cypher who betrays Morpheus and his group because he couldn't handle the harsh reality he faced and chose a promise for a life in ignorance that the matrix would provide for him. Mabye this whole blue and red pill concept isn't a one time deal, mabye this pill is something that we choose to take on a daily basis in our lives. Those who control the matrix are those who can provide the society with there daily hit of blue pill if you will. So who are our Morpheus's ? Are they our college professors ? mabye our religious figures either way you cannot find out who they are if you don't have the will to look and question your environment in search for these answers like Neo did.
I didn't think of the matrix in that way. Its a very good point. I think you're right, we are sort of given the choice between the two pills everyday, and we can't grow and better understand life if we don't question our surroundings and our environment.

ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with your idea on people willingly being ignorant. People do know certain things are happen but decide to put some sort of block/wall in their minds about something that seems unnatural

The real reason the humans waged war against the machines though wasnt for greed or ambition but from jealousy and fear.
Man created the machines at the peak of the 22nd century out of pure peace and human unity. "God gave birth to Man, and Man gave birth to A.I. ..." - The Ani-Matrix. At our best we gave birth to our destruction, as Einstien did, the most horrific things have been done and created with the best intentions. For along time , nearly 100 years things were good with machines and man. But when the machines wanted their independence, thats when the riots and wars began.
The machines broke away from humanity and created there own city called 01. The machines began to create and replicate themselves at a global rate, theyre technologies were far more advanced and superior to the humans. They began trade with the world and over took our markets in every aspect. Over 90% of households world wide were using parts and tools from 01, they had cornered the market in everything.
The humans saw this as a threat and had to act. So they darkended the skies cutting off theyre main source of energy, after a long and grueling war the humans were defeated.
The machines dispensed great suffering upon the human race, even after its world leaders surrendered the machines persisted on eradicating and harvesting all remaining human life. "God have mercy on both Man and Machine for they have both sinned..." - The Ani-Matrix.
Once the last few humans were harvested up, they began to fabricate and replicate us as you saw in the matrix as a source of endlessly resupplying power.
Ok back to your passage, I agree people would prefer to live happy and dumb, then troubled but aware.
If you put a frog in boiling water, it will jump out, but if you put him in water thats room temperatute and slowly heat it. He will sit there until he boils to death.
Thats how many people are, unaware of there surroundings and always passing the buck. Everyone goes by that old American mantra "Ill worry about it tommorow.." Well guess what, tommorow is today.
